Default Problem with Google Earth search

Greetings:

I hope someone here can help me with this......

I just downloaded Google Earth and right away I have a problem: I
cannot search for locations and "fly to" them.

Seems no matter what location I type in, I get YOUR SEARCH RETURNED NO
RESULTS....

Not even for new york, ny!!!!

Oddly enough....I *can* find Beijing, China.

Is there some other "locations" module that I need to download?? I see
no reference to anything like this. And when I searched the help area,
it just confirmed that everything I'm doing *SHOULD* be working.

Assistance appreciated.

Thanks!!

You've got the special Chinese version, which is limited to the

You added a smiley face, so I'm note sure if that was meant as a
joke......but it does in fact seem to be the case!!! I have discovered
that the *ONLY* cities I can fly to are in China!!!

Is there some setting (a registry key or something) that can force a
change in the default setting? Are there really different versions? Is
it possible to get a different one?

Thnx!

just search for "New York". I'm not really happy with the latest rev
of GE, at least as far as the tilt goes.

Thanks for your response but.....nope!! I tried that already....just
about every combination of spellings and abbreviations from New York
to NY to NY,NY to New York NY......

All return the "YOUR SEARCH RETURNED NO RESULTS" error message.

But, on the other hand, I type in wuxi, dalian, etc (and a couple of
other obscure places in China I found in an almanac) et voila...it
soars right to them!!

Furthermore, I noticed when I power up GE, it starts up centered on
China!

So that's what makes me think there is some setting somewhere that
selects a default location or region for searches. But I find no
reference to this in any documentation.

Either that or...as the other poster said (jokingly).....I have
somehow gotten a restricted version of GE that the Chinese gov't
intended for use by its citizens!

I'd be interested in knowing when other people fire it up, what is the
default starting location?

Just an FYI, I do try what I suggest before posting it. It worked for
me.
