Hello there,
Is this possible (as the title says) as a GPS receiver? I don't know much about GPS' NMEA but apparently on the setup page in MapPoint requires a 2.0 of NMEA. How do I check if this is possible? Thanks in advance, Lu Zheng |

How do I check if this is possible? If I understand correcly, you want to use your N95 as a GPS receiver connected to your PC running MapPoint. I have no direct experience with the N95 nor MapPoint, but sometimes do use a Nokia 6210 Navigator, (which is also a S60 phone) connected to a laptop. Try downloading ExtGPS (please google, can't remember the address) symbian version and run it on your N95. This little program will connect to the phone GPS and send out NMEA strings over Bluetooth to your laptop. If MapPoint is able to connect to a bluetooth virtual comm port, your problem is solved. ![]() HTH cs |

My Laptop is an EEEPC 900HA which only has USB as a connector (between N95 and the laptop). So the bluetooth part is out of question. Do you think it will still work? Because I am entirely sure how this NMEA work even after reading on wikipedia and browsing through the net. But yah, I will give it a shot. Thanks again, will keep this thread updated. |

I'm not aware of any other program that does what you need via USB cable. Anyway, when I connect the phone (at least the 6210 Nav) to the PC with a cable I get a menu on the phone to select the connection mode (the options a PCSuite, Mass Storage, Image Transfer and Multimedia Transfer). None of them seems suitable to send GPS data as you need. Maybe there is a reason you don't want to, but how about getting one of those USB bluetooth adapters? cs |

Hi cs,
I am still playing around with ExtGPS. The google search came up with some really nice result with a lot of other applications for phones (a little sidetrack). http://www.Joiku.com But yah, if everything else fails, I might just grab a Bluetooth receiver to actually test it. So does your Nokia 6210 Navigator work as a GPS recreiver for you when you use a Bluetooth adapter on your PC? Let me know. It's being great sharing information with you. Lu |

for you when you use a Bluetooth adapter on your PC? Yes, it does. My desktop computer does not have built-in bluetooth hardware, so I tried one of those cheap adapters and easily made the 6210 act as a GPSr to Oziexplorer. Not terribly usefull for a desktop computer, but it proves that it works. :-) In the laptop never tried the adapter as it has bluetooth. cs |
