I have a Magellan Maestro 4050 GPS which works fine in virtually all
vehicles that I have tried to use it in. Recently, however, when renting a car (a 2010 Chevy Impala), I found that the cord, when plugged into either of the several outlets on the car, did not conduct power to the GPS. The GPS turned on, and, after a minute or two, gave me a warning that it did not have power, and then shut itself off. The unit works with all other cars, including a 2001 Cadillac Deville, and a 1998 Honda Accord. The Impala, however, did work with the Nuvi GPS which the rental company (Enterprise) provided (and charged me extra for). Could there be something "nonstandard" about the 2010 Impala plug, or was this a glitch in my Magellan unit. I tried to contact Magellan, but cannot find a reliable way to do so. Does anyone here have a contact for Magellan (e-mail, phone,FAX, etc.)? Many thanks, Bob Robert A. Fink, M. D., FACS, P. C. From the User Manual:
http://www.magellangps.com/assets/ma..._Manual_EN.pdf "Connecting Power Plug the end of the cigarette lighter adapter into a 12 VDC cigarette lighter receptacle in the vehicle. Connect the other end to the Magellan Maestro as shown. There is a wire catch on the side of the cradle to run the power cable through to prevent it from disconnecting. If there is power at the receptacle, the Magellan Maestro will power on. (Note: some vehicles apply power to the cigarette lighter receptacle only when the ignition is on.)" Assuming you were using the cigarette lighter for power, did you try the lighter itself to see if it had power? Magellan product support: http://magellangps.helpserve.com/ Your problem doesn't seem to be in the FAQ list, so you could try submitting a ticket he http://magellangps.helpserve.com/ind...kets&_a=submit There are at least 2 common standards for automotive cigarette lighters. That's probably not the issue, though, since the sizes are very slightly different, and you would have noticed that it didn't quite fit. |
