Looking for advice on golf GPS units by
Robert Peirce[_2_]
This may have been covered in the past but I just started to think about
it this week. I saw a GolfLogix unit at a local golf star and got
interested. The store wanted list, $300, but I found it on the internet
for $175. Apparently, you have to have a $30/year subscription to
download more than one course, so it is really over $200 for the first
year.
I don't know what else might be out...

Car thieves making clean getaway with GPS jammers by
Wolfgang S. Rupprecht[_11_]
"Car thief gangs have begun using imported GPS jammers to allow them to
escape tracking technology."
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/02/23/car_theft_gps_jam/
It looks like gps jammers may be useful to toll evaders too in the parts
of the world where GPS position loggers are being used to automatically
charge people when they drive on certain roads.

Geotiff to BSB by
user[_3_]
I want to show some kind of geotiffs in a moving map application under
unix(linux).
I found such an app, but it needs BSB format. (do you know one which uses
"native" geotiffs?)
I have the tif2bsb application (from libbsb-0.0.7), but I need to make KAP
files automatically, with the GEO info in it.

Moving Map display by
NadCixelsyd
You've seen them on ariplanes: a map with the airplane superimposed
as to the location of the flight.
I want to do something similar for a tourist ship, but use a printed
nautical chart, a GPS, and a HDTV, and (if necessary) a computer. I
can get the nautical chart into GIF, TIF, JPG, or PDF format. Anyone
know of software for this? Any other hardware required?

Loran Shutdown by
Soldier in a Combat Zone
Saturday was evidently the last day for the old Coast Guard Loran
system. Now it's all GPS and of course the speculation is that the
increasing sun spots will foul it up. I don't think we had much
problem with sun spots in the previous cycle.
I think that the Air Force forced the Coast Guard away from e-Loran
which was designed to supplement the current GNSS system. e-Loran
would have used...

The effects of the small solar flares of the 13th and 14th of February 2010
have reached the ACE satellite have already begun to be observed by

We expect auroral activity at least equal to that of Estimated Planetary
