WAAS question by
isw
I have a GPS puck that I connect to my cellphone (running a Java app)
via Bluetooth. The GPS claims to be able to use WAAS, and I don't doubt
it, but I'd like to confirm that it's working.
I think that, if I knew the PRNs of the birds the thing used, that would
prove it, but unfortunately, the Java app (GPSMid) doesn't provide that
info.
Is there some other way to find out? GPSMid displays...

Carrier-Phase Anomalies Detected on SVN-48
May 17, 2010
By: Brady O' Hanlon, Mark L. Psiaki, Steven P. Powell, Paul M. Kintner Jr.
Anomalous behavior of the L1 C/A-code carrier phase has been detected on
PRN07/SVN-48. The anomalies are sudden step-like changes of phase by
about 10 degrees/5 millimeters. These steps are followed by negative
steps of the same magnitude that restore the original...

10 years without selective availability by
HIPAR
Setting SA to zero marked the difference between reliance on GPS for
not getting lost and using it for innovative civilian applications.
Despite a pledge from the US not to use SA again, I still see paranoid
references to its reinstatement.
1 May was the tenth anniversary.

Road distance by
Luis Quesada[_2_]
Dear all,
Is there a way of computing the *road* distance (i.e., the distance
that you would travel if you were to use the road network) between two
GPS coordinates automatically (e.g., from Python using)?
Cheers,
Luis

Looking for a GPS Antenna Switch by
Johnson[_2_]
I would like to test two GPS antenna with one same GPS receiver. It is
really inconvenient to switch the antenna back and forth manually, since
my computer is not close to the test lab, and I can only run my software
in my computer, and the GPS receiver at the lab. I can't bring my
computer to the lab, or install my software to a test computer at the lab.
Is there any RF GPS Antenna awitch...

What is the best GPS for us? by

We are a group of students traveling to Central America for an
engineering project. We have little to no experience with handheld GPS
units and were wondering which would be optimum for our application.

-create a map of a particular village with houses and other important
infrastructure included
-calculate distances
-note important elevations (an embedded barometric altimeter would be

PREVIEWED - Garmin's impressive new nuvi 3790T by
Keith
"The Garmin nuvi 3790T is a very impressive device, because of its
sleek hardware that's already earned it the "The Blade" nickname, but
also because of it's sheer responsiveness unseen on a GPS unit so far.
To navigate the menus but particularly for the map display while
navigating or scrolling the map in exploring mode with "pinching" and
"expanding"...and the software isn't even final..and...

Fed up with Garmin Mapsource locking/restrictions by
Vartan Narinian
Forgive the rant, but I only just found out about the upgrade policy
on second units.
My Garmin Quest has been using City Select Europe v7 since new.
I have also used the 'Unlock Additional Garmin Unit' option
and have unlocked the City Select Europe v7 for my GPSMAP 60c.
City Select Europe has been discontinued in favour of City Navigator
Europe, and a few days ago I paid my $75 (plus tax)...
