My satnav device of choice right now is a 3 year old Mio PDA with Tomtom
installed. I'm relatively happy with the device, but I think it's time to upgrade. I'd rather a Windows Mobile based application, so I can simply install it on my phone (an HTC Touch HD,) but after trying out a recent standalone version of TomTom, I noticed that the instructions given were completely different to the instructions that my old device would give, on a route that hasn't changed in ten years. The newer device gave what could only be described as dangerous and frivolous instructions on one part of the route, and stayed absolutely silent where instructions needed to be given on another. The older device (my PDA) had it about right. So a couple of questions: 1. Does anybody know why the instruction database seems to have gone so rapidly downhill? 2. Can anybody recommend a decent payware non-subscription winmo satnav package for just the UK. Cheers, -- Alex Holden |

Not sure about "recommend" exactly, but there's a 30-day free trial of NAVIGON MobileNavigator 7 for Windows Mobile/PDA on their web site http://www.navigon.com/. To use it you have to have a web connection each time you start it up (this is part of their 30-day free trial limitation). (I've got Navigon5 and have some "issues" with it.)
